Mufti Abdool Kader (AK) Hoosen
Mufti Abdool Kader (AK) Hoosen is a prominent South African Islamic scholar, jurist, and media personality based in Johannesburg. Born in Heidelberg in 1957, he completed his Hifz and initial studies in South Africa before pursuing higher Islamic education at Jamia Binnooria (Newtown) and Jamia Farooqia in Karachi, Pakistan, where he was the first South African to study Hadith under Maulana Saleemullah Khan. He is a senior student and Khalifah of several eminent spiritual masters, including the late Hazrat Maulana Maseehullah Khan Saheb. Mufti AK Hoosen gained widespread recognition as a senior lecturer at Darul Uloom Newcastle for two decades before moving into media, becoming a household name through his long-standing "Q&A" programs on Channel Islam International (Cii) and later through his own platform, Markaz Sahaba. Academically, he holds an MA from the University of Johannesburg (formerly RAU) for his thesis on Imam Tirmidhi’s contributions to Hadith. Known for his outspoken nature and uncompromising stance on traditional values, his work focuses on Fiqh, the preservation of the Sunnah, and addressing contemporary challenges facing the global Muslim Ummah.
